Living Proof weekend recap!
Me with "the mama's" (aka: Sophie and Melanie). Love these gals! And that Gulley (not pictured) is a cutie, too!
Fellow LifeWay authors, (Margaret Kennedy, Simone Monroe, and Pat Layton). Love 'em! (Note to self: New Banana Republic top looks like maternity blouse! Mercy!)
I showed up to my reserved seat to see that my mentor, Ada, was two seats down from me! (She is worthy of an entire blog post to come...)
Lisa McKay (aka "the preacher's wife"). Love this gal!
Winding down at the Siesta Fiesta w/ one of my best buds. She attended w/ a couple of our church ladies. Barbara is also a mentor to my daughter, Paige. My friend, Pat, was on the right, but she made me cut her out because her eyes were closed... Vanity, I tell ya.
This may be hard to believe, but I was counting up the years and prior to this past weekend, I have not been to a women's event (unless my memory is failing me, here) for NINE YEARS! What in the world? I am fairly certain that is a sin. I have mentioned before that sometimes those of us who do the speaking look out at the precious groups of women who come to our events and wish for a moment that we could hang with you and your pals (or as Beth might say, "peeps") for the weekend. Not that we're not grateful for our assignment, but sometimes, in a weird sort of way, it can be very lonely. Not to mention, it's a tad easier on the heart to sit in the stadium seats or church pew than take that first step up onto the platform.
The event was fabulous and Beth brought the exact Word that God assigned her to deliver. Seeing the sea of women come forward was proof that many gladly received the Word. Praise God for His mighty work. Travis and crew where amazing and ushered us all before the throne. I like that imagery of a worship leader being like an usher showing you to your seat at an event (or in this case, throne!). A sincere worship leader (those who worship in Spirit and Truth, John 4:23-24) does just that. There is nothing that can bring on the goosebumps more than a collective surrendering of hearts bowed down before His throne.
I loved meeting so many of my blog buddies, but I only wish there had been more time to get to know each one. And I am so mad at myself for not taking more pictures. Half the time, I was digging for my camera in the never-ending abyss of my tote bag and unsuccessfully, at that. Maybe I need to attach it to a lanyard around my neck next time...
But alas, all good things must come to an end. This morning, was the first day of school for my youngest (10th grade) who also happens to be my last and final child in the home. Last night, I asked him what time we needed to leave for school and he informed me that a friend was picking him up (a precious girl who is also a friend of my daughter's and that I gladly count among my own). I looked at Hayden and said, "Now look buddy, I only have three "first days of school" left where I can do the drop-off." His response? "Actually Mom, I'll be driving by next year, so you really don't have any." Ouch. Of course, the sweet thing gave me a hug and we laughed it off. Or at least I pretended to...

So glad you had time with women. That time is always sweet fellowship.
*Side note here: I love your Banana Republic shirt! So cute. :)
I felt a dagger go through my heart when I read what your 10th grader said, I am so glad to see my kids grow, but there are so many times that I just revel in the memories of their little fingers and toes and all the first days of school. They grow up SO quickly.
So fun to meet you this weekend! Glad to hear that you had such a great time, too!
Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking not getting a pic of us! I'll have to bring my camera some Sunday.
I'm glad you were able to be there and be on the receiving end for once.
Tell Hayden to be nice to his mama!
Oh, your shirt was darling. And I'm so glad I just realized I left the r out of shirt and went back and edited. I'd hate to use profanity on Virtuous Reality and shame my family.
Loved hanging out with you. Can't wait to do it again in a month!
The weekend was so awesome!
I went with a group of some of my best friends that have been in my life for over 18 years. We all brought our teenage daughters and had a sleep over Friday night. What a great message to receive alongside our girls...I am an heir of God!
I had a similar back to school experience as you did.
When I asked my teenager what time she wanted to leave for school - she informed me her friend Andrea was picking her up. I stood and pouted. Shortly after that her dad asked the same question...he gave her the same reaction!
Oh well...at least she still let me take her first day of school picture! I have done that since Kindergarten!!
Beth delivered just like she always does, and many were blessed by the message God gave her to speak. We had such a great time at the conference, and it was a blast to meet so many fellow bloggers in person!
I'm glad you had the opportunity to be on the receiving end this time...

I'm so glad you were able to make it! It was great to get to talk in person for a few minutes. Love you, Vicki!
No school drop-offs left! You must have super powers to hold hold in the tears after hearing that!
This weekend looked fun. I've been visiting all my favortie blogs and reading up on their views.
I always make the excuse that I don't know anyone going. It'll be my goal to invite someone next year!
Vicki,
It was great to finally meet you for a few seconds on Friday
I realized that in my frenzy of registering everyone I forgot to get a pic with you - oh well
You are precious and the shirt was adorable :)
Blessings,
Kim
Oh I so wanted to meet you this weekend! I am so sad I didn't get to! I love your blog and when Beth mentioned you were there I wanted to come and hug your neck! So here is a hug from a far! I have 4 kids, 3 of them teenagers!
Loved reading your recap and seeing your pictures! Got to sit by Margaret Kennedy on plane ride home... just adored her!
Was an awesome weekend!
Have a blessed evening and thank you for your ministry!
Emmy : )
Vicki,
It was great to see you again. You looked relaxed, happy and YOUNG in your (not!!) maternity top. Considering the summer that is coming to an end for you, all I can say is God is Good!
Maybe next year will be the one for more girl trips, you deserve it!!
Blessings lady,
pat
Such a treat to meet you! Thanks again for what you do for me and my four girls! :)
This weekend was amazing. My girlfriend and I (who have daughters tha same age) were already making plans to come see your event in Katy in March. Girl time is so necessary, and I hope that I can pass that on to all four of my girls!! Thank you for your committment!
Hey Vicki!
It was so great getting to finally meet up with you. You have no idea how much your investment in my little life has encouraged me! You actually made me believe that, with a lot of God's help, I might actually get this book written.
And I'm totally lifting your picture for my blog. Somehow my camera was in video mode - I have quite the hilarious 3 second clip of us screaming when we realized it. (No, I won't post it:)
Hope you are getting lots done!
Love ya,
Lisa
Right now I am going through the opposite experience. Then one when your little "baby" has tears in her eyes as she walks through the huge doors to school and you have to stay strong until they can't see you any more. Then the little tear in your eye call roll as you walk away just wanting to take your baby home. I know one day she will not shed tear when it's time to leave me, but until then my heart is broken thinking of her wanting me.
Christine (Mom to Ana, 10, Zoe, 5)
I dropped off my 10th grader, (2 )5th graders and my baby into K5 yesterday!! I have been so weepy. I want to celebrate all this growing up, but it closes such a sweet chapter in my life!
Vicky,
I so wanted to meet you and get my picture with you! I sat with the bloggers and only saw you from a distance at the reception.
Oh well.....maybe next time.
My daughter and I had the most wonderful time. I will never forget it.
Love,
Valerie
Vicki,
I saw you briefly and wanted to walk up and introduce myself, but felt too shy to proceed. It was a great time. I didnt realize you lived so close. Conferences in south Texas are too far between and too few.
Have you heard about the conference in Corpus on Oct 2-3 with Becky Terabassi? I'd like to personally invite you.
About the first day of school with your son, that sounds a lot like when they lose the first baby tooth and you know they'll never have the baby face look again. They grow so fast!

I just hope this was a weekend of rest for you!
And I am so mad I didn't take a picture with you...and I even had my camera ON me. (It was in my purse, which was on my shoulder!)
Next time...;)
Have a great week, Vicki!
Vicki,
I read your blog and was hoping to meet you at the conference! Glad you were able to enjoy the fellowship with other women instead of being up on the platform this time.
I know what you mean about the first day of school! I was like that with my oldest too!
Hey Vicki!
I so badly wanted a picture with you in SA but you were busy talking to other Siestas and it just never happened. I just want you to know...as a proud momma of 3 boys that I absolutely love what you have to say about life and raising the kiddos in such a difficult world.
Bless you for all you do. I love reading all that you have to say.
Hugs and blessings,
Fran

You know how every mom who has older children says, "Enjoy them and savor every moment because the time goes so fast." I just had my first and for some reason, I really have that sense reading your blog...like it clicks. Take in the scenery. Enjoy the road.
Thank you!
Hey Mrs. Vicki!
This is a good recap! I guess I can see where ya'll up there at the podium can get lonely. You are there to bring the Word to us because God has chosen for you to do that. Then, as more and more people read what God has given you to write, or see you on TV or listen to you on radio, there's less and less anonymity. You have to guard your relationships because some have misguided or wrong motives for getting to know you. But, God knows you need "peeps". He will provide!:) I wish I could have been there at the Siesta Fiesta, Vicki, but alas, it was not meant to be for me this year. But, if they do this again next year, there's a good chance I will be there!!!! Lord willing:)
Love in CHRIST, my fellow Siesta!:)
