You & Your Girl/Katy, Texas!

I'm finally coming up for air to post some pictures from the Katy, Texas/You & Your Girl event. It was clear from the beginning that this event had been covered in prayer and the moms and girls came with hearts wide open. One highlight of the event was a powerful skit performed by eight students (including my own son) who are a part of my home church's youth group (group pic above). I am planning to post the video of the skit sometime this next week, so be sure to check back -- you'll be glad you did! My husband also came along since Katy is only about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Austin and as an added bonus, my in-laws also showed up! I cannot begin to tell you how special it was to have so many members of my family in the audience. I am truly blessed.

My main message was centered on Proverbs 4:23 which says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do." As I alluded to in a post last week, God has taught me a few things about my own heart in the process of preparing this message. It has been painful and humbling to invite God to "examine my heart" and show me some areas that are in much-need of improvement.

The week prior to the event, I wrestled with the challenge of stepping up onto the platform and telling the girls to protect their hearts when my own heart feels like it is surrounded by scaffolding, orange cones, and a big "Under Construction" sign. I was comforted by the fact that the message God assigned me to give was as much for me as anyone else in the audience and that it wasn't a requirement that I "have it all together" (as if!) before I delivered it. With His trademark love and patience, He gently reminded me that each of our hearts is under construction during our Christian pilgrimage on this earth and that we are a work in progress. Thank you to those of you who have been praying for me -- I felt it and am extremely grateful.

Enjoy the pictures! Next up on our tour: You & Your Girl/Elizabethtown, KY on April 18th! I can't wait to meet the girls and moms and see what God has in store!

Vicki,

It was a great time in the Lord on Saturday. My girl and I really enjoyed the time together. You continue to be a source of influence for so many and I am grateful that you are obedient to God's calling. Thanks for being honest and transparent with us moms on Saturday.

I was wondering if you will have any of this informational events in TN? Like I said Im praying for my little niece and even my almost 4 yr old little girl. What a hard time to grow up in. We have a BIG job in teaching them so much. I do know I serve a BIG God and HE is awesome. However I do know HE sends people like you to share so much with others. Anyway any chance you will be in TN? Thanks, April

Hi Vicki, I am so glad I took the time to take my girls to this event. Especially my 13 year old. It really had an impact on her. She has a very sensitive spirit, but God used the conference to show her how exclusive He wants their relationship to be and not to give the world inroads.
That skit is something I will never forget. I've never seen it before. It definitely got this Mom's attention. Some things just stick with you...you know.
Thank you for sharing your heart with us on Saturday and all the staff with the girls in the breakout sessions.
I put a post about it on my blog and hope that more Moms will invest a day with daughters at your events.

Saturday was wonderful, as a mother of 4 I never get the whole day with just one child, and this allowed me the chance to spend the day with my oldest 8 year old daughter. We both enjoyed it so much. She is now more interested in reading her bible, she has dabbled in reading a little the last few months but she really wants to read since her break-out on Digging for Treasure.

Also we are very conservitive and have always dressed conservitive and now she understands more why we dress the way we do. Thank you.

So very glad I read your post. My 7th grade daughter is having a tough time trying to figure out her path. My words of wisdom are questioned so we have been bringing it to the Lord. Thank you for inspiring me.

Hi, Glad to know the "You & Your Girl" event went well in Texas. I wish I could get to Elizabethtown to see you in April. Do you ever put these events on DVD as a Bible Study for churches to show. Just curious. Thanks for all you do, my daughter and I truly appreciate it all. Looking forward to the 5 Conversations Bible Study to come out in May.
Thanks for all you do,
Laura

What a great message! You were on my heart since your last post, and I continually lifted you up to the Lord!

I'm doing Measureless Love by Mama Beth and she talks about the preparation she "endures" (my word not hers) before an event. In Measureless Love she could not feel the anointing/presence of the Holy Spirit as she normally does. She said when He returned, He said "Now teach on it"! (I get chill bumps just typing it out.) She said!!!!! You want me to teach on it???? That's what this was about???!!! There is no measure God won't use to further His glory and the ministry we are to provide to others.

Praise Him for a great conference!!! Yippee!!

Just wanted to thank you. My daughter and I really enjoyed this event. We both got a lot out of your message. She really enjoyed the fashion show too. It's so nice to have someone trying to help us mothers to keep our precious daughters on the right path. I look forward to the next event you have in our area. Thanks again!

I was truly convicted Vicki about so many things. God is forgiving and loving inspite of my failings. My 14 year old daughter and I had a truly great conversation on Sunday morning going to church about some things she is going through and I reminded her of the Proverbs passage about the heart. It was good for her to hear what was said from someone other than her mom. Thank you so much!

A total of 17 of us came from Pasadena, TX to the Your Girl event in Katy. We have no regrets it was the best way to spend a Saturday. Thank you for cheering us on as we stand to raise Godly girls in todays Ungodly culture. Both moms and daughters enjoyed the up front conversations and how to handle real issues in everyday life. Thank You!

What a wonderful time my girl and I had on Saturday! We both learned so much. I realized too that in raising her that I have a lot more intentional work to do before she goes off to Jr High next year. No one is an expert but you are certainly gifted in the ways of raising girls (boys too!). Thank you for sharing your insights and your love of the Lord!
