Attention Shred-heads!

It's been exactly 12 days since I issued the 30 Day Shred challenge and nearly 150 of you signed up to join me! (Click here for the original post.) Honestly, I thought I'd get maybe a handful of you to sign up for the 30 day reign of torture, so I was a bit caught off guard by the enthusiasm. That said, know that I don't have any formal agenda for us to follow other than to offer support and accountability to each other...which for most of us, it's exactly what we need to stick with this workout.
I thought I would start by giving you an update on where I am in the challenge and the impact it's had on some other areas of my life. When I finish with this update, I'll be shredding in front of my TV in the living room...(drumroll, please) on Day 21! Some of you have already weighed in on the original post and are reporting your progress and of course, your soreness! Stick with it -- two-thirds of the way through, you will be glad you did. Like me, you may even wonder how you lived without it as part of your daily routine. Twenty minutes, people. That's all!
I originally started on Level 1, which is highly recommended for people like me whose only form of exercise is an occasional 200 yard walk to the mailbox. I recall Day 5 and 6 being the point for me where I was tempted to quit. Then like magic, it began to feel somewhat easier and my soreness began to wear off. I had planned to stick with Level 1 through Day 10, but it became clear that I would need to stick with Lever 1 a bit longer. I moved onto Level 2 on Day 20 and am proud to say that I survived the workout. Barely. And OMGosh, am I sore! I took yesterday off and will pick it back up today.
Level 1 was great, but I didn't feel like my legs were really getting a good workout. Right around Day 17, I noticed that Level 1 was starting to become less challenging. And would it be shallow for me to say that I was tired of seeing my bff, Jillian, in the same workout gear? It's was time for a change. I would love to tone my thighs and Level 2 may just do the trick as it contains some strength and cardio movements that work the legs more. I am planning to stick with Level 2 through the remaining 10 days of my 30 day challenge. After that, I may alternate back and forth between Levels 1 and 2. I won't move to Level 3 until or unless I've mastered the movements of Level 2 comfortably.
Now, for an update on visible changes: I had to go shopping for new shorts last week because I am a size smaller! But, here's the weird part: I have not lost a single pound since Day 8. I mentioned in the original post that my goal was not to lose weight as I am currently within my target weight range. However, I did find it odd that I haven't dropped more than a pound in the last 13 days and yet, my clothes are looser. I should note that I had lost about 5ish pounds over a 3 month period prior to starting the workout, but have noticed the biggest change in my shape from the workout rather than the previous weight loss. As a disclaimer, I am NOT trying to lose weight, but rather, wanted to encourage you just in case you are not noticing a big change in the number on the scale.
Here are some other changes I have experienced in 20 days of shredding:
* I am eating more healthily. I am pretty good about sticking to a 1300-1500 calorie diet each day. I don't formally count calories, but I have been paying more attention to what I eat and trying not to snack much throughout the day. I lost the original 5ish pounds slow and steady by eating a protein bar in the mornings, a Lean Cuisine for lunch, and then whatever the family ate for dinner. I only do this on weekdays and then I'm off on the weekend. I am a big fan of the 100 calorie snack packs and stock up on a variety when I go to the store. I also snack on almonds and fruit. My diet may not work for you, but for someone with a crazed schedule like mine, it has to be sweet and simple.
* I no longer experience a mid-afternoon sinking spell. I have more energy throughout the day and have been able to get more done. Not only am I no longer tired halfway through the day, get ready for this next one:
* Halfway through the workout, I began to incorporate more exercise into my day. I didn't plan to do that, but I began to feel more healthy and as a result, would take a mid-afternoon power walk or jump on my bike and tackle a few hills in my neighborhood. I actually like to sweat now!
* My legs look better in shorts and my arms are beginning to look toned! Last summer, I avoided sleeveless shirts because I was getting "old-lady" arms, but oh my, I have guns now! Not big ones, but hey, anything is better than that what I had before!
* Last of all, I just plain feel better about myself. I actually ordered a new swimsuit yesterday (online) and did not experience the same dread as I have in years past when swimsuit shipping. Glory hallelujah. And amen.
I will plan to do another update in about 10 more days as I wrap up my 30 days of shredding. However, I plan to continue the workout indefinitely, so I'll continue to cheer you on and invite you to weigh in every 10 or so days as long as there is interest.
So, now it's your turn. If you are taking part in the 30 Day Shred challenge, weigh in (not literally!) on your progress. Let us know what day you are on, any differences you have noticed, challenges you've faced, etc... Let's make this the largest online Shred-head support group on the web! Oh, and I LOVE how some of you are doing the workout with your daughters. My college daughter is home next week and planning to start the workout with me.
Next Shred-head update: Monday, May 11th! Don't give up ... imagine the changes you'll see by then! Maybe I'll post a pic of me showing off my new guns in my new tankini top! Ha! That should get you back here. Now, I'm off to shred...

My DVD should be arriving today!! I've got mixed emotions - a little excited to begin and then a little fearful of the pain that comes with it!! Anyway, thanks for getting us motivated!
Yeah, I'll go shred. . .some cheese!
Oh, I'm feeling like such a sloth. Maybe I better try this.
BTW, muscle weighs more than fat. That's why you lose inches but not weight initially as you tone.
I have to be honest, I fell off the bandwagon. I had done it for about five days and I lost motivation :( The worst part is, I love the workout. It's great that it only takes 20 minutes. But, this post has remotivated me!! I definitely want to get back to doing it again!
Oh. My. Goodness! The first couple of days were almost tortuous. Day #2 found me almost unable to climb up into our bed at night and longing for a set of those cute, little Victorian stairs instead of my graceless tumble onto the covers.
I weathered the teasing and taunts of my children, the silent smirks of my husband, and the screaming of my own thighs for a couple of days, but I can honestly say today was better. I am now committed to finishing this challenge stronger and more fit than when I started. Thanks for the encouragement, Vicki. I have to say it has been wonderful knowing I am not alone in this venture.
WE CAN DO THIS!!
I am IN!
I ordered the DVD and can not wait to get started
I am like you - I do not want to lose weight I just want to feel better and look more toned
I cant wait
Thanks a bunch!
Kim
This is what I wrote to BooMama earlier today in response to her "The Good News is My Eyelashes are Not Sore at All" post:
Oh my…
Jillian is due to arrive at my house T.O.D.A.Y! And I have to tell you that as I was reading your post and knowing that her ETA is around 1:00 — because that is when UPS drives up in my ‘hood — I was planning all manner of “Home Alone” tactics against my poor unsuspecting “Man in Brown.” I’ve come to know and love him because he is the bearer of all things Amazon…and I’m usually happy to see him…
…but not today!
Dreading the burn,
DoriSo I reluctantly respond to your call...I'M IN! But I'm also stocking up on Aleve!
Blessings,
Dori
I would like to report that I am on Day 2 and would like to die.
Thank you.
I just did day one...and I'm gonna die...
I am on day 4 today and I have already noticed that I am able to get through most of the push-ups and most of the cardio on Level 1 better than I did on day 1. My arms are really weak and I have noticed they are improving. I also have a bad back, so the ab workouts are helping with my back problems as well. I love it that you're calling us "Shred-heads" by the way! Ha! :)
Okay, I just have to comment and say that you guys make me laugh. I love that we are here to support each other. Shall we have an end-of-the-summer-pool-party celebration? Now, there's incentive!!
Keep spreading the word to your friends. It's not too late to get in shape...even for those of us whose age now rounds up to 50. Oh my, that hurt to type...
I did not sign up on the initial post, however, I did pick up the DVD at Target when I went grocery shopping. I was looking for something to jump start me and I thought 'I can do 20 min a day - no problem!' Days 2 and 3 were tough, but after I got over that hill, I added a 3 mile walk 3 times a week, because you are so right - you feel like doing more.
I am also keeping loose track of the calories I eat on an app on my itouch called Lose it. It has helped me see where I might be going over and made me ask ,myself if I really want to 30 seconds of pleasure I get eating that brownie :)
As a result I have lost 4 lbs already!!
And I have recruited some friends with my new found enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing this!!!!
My DVD was to have been here yesterday but no such luck! I am hoping today so I can start tonight. My hubby is out of town and I would really like to get started before he gets home. Before you even posted the original post I had told him to enjoy April because May 1 things were a changin'!
Thanks for the unintentional support you have given us by starting this!
Brandi
LOVE this DVD. (well, I love it when I'm doing the cool down!) I know that this hard work is going to pay off and I can not wait to start seeing some results!!
I forgot to add that my teenage daughters are excited about doing this, too. They're ready for the DVD to arrive just as much as I am!
Hey Vicki,
This is off-subject a bit, but I saw a former model (Jennifer Stickland) on Life Today this morning and thought, "She needs to speak with Vicki and share her story at Vicki's conferences." Check out Life Today today and see what you think. Wow--what a testimony she has and it fits right in with your message to young girls.
Keep shredding! Great job!
I've been doing the Wii Fit. And it's been fun!
I did day 5 yesterday. Thankfully, it seemed to go by faster than the first 4 times. THe very first time I did it I could. not. walk.!!! I tried to carry my son to bed and my legs wouldn't hold us up. Now after 5 days, I feel so much stronger. I can keep up with the pushups and squats now. Thanks for keeping us motivated.
I have completed 5 days of the workout and already feel better - I love the 20 minute length, by the time you are wishing it would be over ...it is!
I'm determined to get fit -
fast approaching 40 this year and I really don't want it showing so obviously -
Thanks for encouraging us -
Today is Day 11, and I was brave and stepped up to Level 2. Whew!! It was a hard workout, but I'm going to stick with it. I haven't lost any weight yet, but I do feel stronger and have more energy.
The day after I was so sore I almost starting crying when I sat down to go to the bathroom.
You've inspired me to start back with Jillian as well. I bought the DVD a couple of months ago....and could never get past day 6. Always some travel event, baseball games/practices, etc.etc. getting in the way...but no more. I intend to start day 1 in just a few minutes! Start praying now, just in case. :)
Thank you for the inspiration Vicki!

This morning was Day 5 of the 30-day shred for me. I absolutely agree with your comment about wanting to give up. I am no longer really sore when I work out, but still have that all over quivery feeling that I despise. I'm exhausted as well, but that has more to do with my schedule than the workout, I think (getting up at 5:30am for quiet time, then workout before getting myself and the kids ready to head out the door; only 30 extra minutes but it has been so tiring). I was eating healthily already and still am, and have not lost any weight. BUT my clothes are fitting me better! And I personally am thrilled with that for now.
It really DOES help to have this accountability. It encourages me to see others a) having the same struggles and b) overcoming them and persevering. Thanks for including all of us!
BTW, I look forward to the time when I've learned the routine and don't need to listen to Jillian's cheesy music - would much rather listen to my own music!
Julie
I just got my video today! I'm pumped!
I just had a baby 7 weeks ago and am dying to get some kind of shape back before the summer. I started the Shred yesterday and it definitely was a workout! My husband laughed at it, so I told him to try it. He was dying by the end! He wants to do it with me now! (he claims he put on pregnancy sympathy weight). Thanks for the motivation!
I didn't sign up previously but did go right and order the DVD. IT cam last week and I started Monday.
I'm sore today, but so ready to get my clothes fitting better. I had lost 30 some pounds 2 years ago, but the scales were creeping back up. My altered and new clothes were starting to get snug.
Keep Shredding everyone! It will be worth it!
Just for the record, I bought the DVD today and plan on starting it today. That is, right before I go to Jazzercise to get weighed for my last night of a challange I am doing called "Take it Off!" I would like to get a head start before I actually step on the scale. Anywhoo, I am excited and plan to let you know how it goes.
Also, Holly, thanks for letting Vicki know about Jennifer, because now I am going to go check her out! :)
Okay, I just started yesterday. Cons: I thought I was going to die and wondered what my family would think when they found me in a pool of sweat in front of the entertainment center. Pros: I slept like a rock and tackled day two today. Can't wait to continue in this journey and look forward to it becoming "easier." :)
Well after your last blog on shredding, I ordered the dvd and have been plugging away (day 5 now) with Jillian, better known as the BEAST in my home. Seriously, she knows how to make em sore! :) Anyway, thanks so much for inspiring me and getting my tummy tuck natuarally. he he
Its been fun shredding and knowing others are too!
By the third day I was so incredibly sore that I could not sit down on the toilet without holding on to a wall or something!! I walked stiff because every muscle I had hurt, I when I say they hurt, I mean they were screaming at me "We were fine just the way we were!!! What are you doing to us?" Now they are saying, "Nice. Feeling a little more toned and little less 'hangy downy'" I too feel so much better. More energy and most of all I don't just dread doing it. But just so you know my DVD player shows the time and it is actually about 23 minutes. But I feel so good I am just going to let that slide.
This is my first time here - I popped over after reading Boomama's post! I have been doing the Shred a few times a week now for about a month now, but I haven't stuck to doing it every day b/c I do some straight cardio as well. But after this post I am going to be intentional about getting as much Shred in as I can! Thanks for the motivation! I do level 2 with weights and am wiped out afterwards, but not sore anymore.
Also, just an aside for anyone else who lives up North like myself abd uses Comcast for cable, you can get level 1 and 2 free through On Demand. But not 3. I guess that's my excuse for sticking with 2.
I'm on day 17 and have noticed the same thing: not much weightloss. I wasn't trying to loose a lot of weight, but just assumed that I would. But after taking my measurements, I am loosing inches. Yay Me!!!
My husband, who is doing the Shred with me, keeps trying to talk me into doing level 3. No way am I ready for that! If there are any more "plank moves" in my future, I may collapse on my face!!! :)
I didn't get to sign up before, but add me to the list. My DVD arrived yesterday and I just finished my first workout - I think I'm going to throw up! And the funny thing is, I'm not a sloth, but very active. I guess it's just the way she keeps you moving.

This is my first blog post ever!! I purchased the DVD from amazon last week. I had intended on starting last week, but my Mom passed away very unexpectedly last Monday. I plan to start tonight. I was hoping it would help ease some of the stress and agony I'm feeling inside. Prior to puchasing the tape, I had been working out with 5lb weights. I see an improvement in my arm's muscle tone. On a side note, to all those with their Momma's still living, please call them and express your love and gratitude for them. I am in my early 40's and never thought both of my parent's would be gone at such a young age. I know I will see them in heaven, but my is heavy tonight
I'm in!
My DVD came a week and half ago...BUT I had the flu...(NOT the swine flu!!!!)...just the regular old really bad, just shoot me flu...sooo I've had a slight delay in starting...but it is on the "to do list" for tomorrow..that and watching "Wed. with Beth"
I love hearing all the comments...they are so motivating!
Blessings!
Teresa
I'm on Day 6 and the soreness has finally worn off. I literally thought I was DYING on Day Three and really considered taking the day off, but pushing through it really made a difference on 4.
All that said, I've already lost an inch off my tail! What?! I was so excited to put on my jeans today and have a little more slack in the back.
Hanging in there 'til next time. :)
I'll be on Day Six tomorrow and while my muscles are still fairly sore, they don't scream in agony when I lunge or squat--and like many others have said, even after such a short time I'm seeing a difference in my shape, no matter what the scale says. And I love, love, LOVE that my kids want to work out with me--so we're all getting healthier!
Can I really make it past day 2? I just did day 2 and I had to take breathers a bunch!
I'm going to try it for the first time tonight! How heavy are the weights you use?
Okay, I'm gonna fess up.
I was one of the 152 people who said they were onboard & excited. And I was.
But I let discouragement & distraction get the best of me before I even got started...and I didn't start.
Then I managed to forget about it (convenient!).
So when I popped in here and saw an update on the whole "shredding thing", my heart sank...here I go again, sitting back and watching everyone else move forward, feeling healthier, losing weight, getting in shape...while I just can't seem to get my act together. Ughhhh!
Well, after reading these comments, I'm excited again and I'm gonna do it! Thanks for the encouragement!!!
Just got my video last night - day one today. Glad to join others in shredding!
I bought it when you first mentioned it. But I haven't begun it.
I am a high school teacher. I also have Fibromyalgia, so I KNOW I will get sore. For those two reasons I have decided to wait until school is out for the summer to start.
But I can't wait!!!!! Everyone's comments are really motivating and exciting to me.
I just finished Day 1! Hope to continue tomorrow as long as I am still able to move.
Lori
Day 2 on my shred today. Ouch!! Hopefully it will help me lose some weight or inches. I just keep telling myself, I can do anything for 20 minutes!!!
This is the first I've heard of this dvd. I read about it on Bigmama and Boomamas blogs and came here to check it out. I'm not sure I'm ready for the pain, but I certainly need to do something. I've signed up to go to Boy Scout camp for a week and I'm afraid that if I don't get some exercise in NOW, that may just kill me. Plus, if I could tone up my uniform might fit and I wouldn't have to buy a new one.
Okay.....I'm in. I'll head to Target after work to find a copy of the dvd. Someone pass the pain meds.
Good to know I'm not a complete wimp and that most of you could hardly stand up after day one and two! I thought I was going to have to crawl up the stairs in my house! On day six now and starting to feel a sense of accomplishment. I have no idea if I've lost any weight or inches but I feel so much better about myself - and anything that hurts that bad has to make you lose something!
After signing up, ordering the DVD and then letting Jillian mock me from the DVD cover for 10 days, I finally felt shamed into beginning.
I consider myself to be in good shape. I run several times a week.
I did it at 10:30 this morning.
I still feel a slight tremble in all my extremities.
Oh Lordy Mercy.
I so wish I could be doing this with y'all. But since I had a c-sec. 2 weeks ago, can't start exercising yet.
But as soon as I can, I'm getting that video.
I'm on day 3 doing level 1. My legs have started to be a little less sore this afternoon. I too am feeling better in general and have more energy. I can't wait until I've done the dvd a few more days to see what happens! I't funny you should mention working out with your daughter. My 3.5 year old has been trying to do the excercises with me in the morning:)
Hey...it is on sale right now @ target! I have to do something...too many nice clothes in my closet to buy new ones b/c these are tight!!! I have been doing another video, but I really think I will switch...
Thanks for the motivation!
And I am praying for the one who has lost her parents.
Started the DVD this morning. Whew...its intense! I'm gonna hang in there for the 30 days (at least thats what I am pushing for), and hope to see some good results (want to get that baby weight off for good!)
Just finished Day 4 and I can say I may be ready to move up a level in a few days. I have recommended it to many friends because of the intensity and the time frame. I have not weighed and will not, but can tell a difference in firmness and my energy level.
One day....sigh. I'll try again--IF I can find private time without the giggles, comments and taunts of 3 teens....
Not shredding with you, BUT I hauled all the kids to the gym so I could squeeze in a class and some weights...Does that count? I already feel so good. Those are results enough for me!
Ok. I finished Day 3 about an hour ago...and it took me that long to crawl to the computer! No, not really, but I swear I'd say my legs feel like Jello, except I don't think that Jello hurts! You know when you look forward to the "Ab" portion so that you can lay down something is wrong! I mean who in their right mind looks FORWARD to doing an ab workout! I am enjoying "shredding" in that morbid self-inflicting pain way...I just want to see the results. I know in a month I'll be glad I did it. Thanks to all of my fellow "Shred Heads" I plan on plowing through the next 17 days!
If I may paraphrase Psalm 90:4, "For a thousand years in Jillian Michaels' sight are like a 3 minute segment of strength that has just gone by, or like a 2 minute segment of cardio." What kind of clock is she using anyway?!
In all honesty, this is just the jump start I needed. Having lost over 30 lbs on Weight Watchers, I have continued going (and paying!) for the sake of holding steady, though I've been stuck in a fitness rut for eons. I've been considering a change, and thanks to your encouragement & Jillian's torture (no shame!) I have a new routine and am energized and motivated. For 11 straight days now I have alternated "shredding" with walking. Knowing I only have to shred 20 minutes e/o day makes it easy to fit in, and knowing I only have to walk e/o day also takes the pressure off (I always listen to Focus on the Family & Family Life Today podcasts while I walk). For those familiar with FlyLady, one of her mottos is "You can do anything for 15 minutes!" And I can certainly add 5 to that and survive! So with this new exercise commitment I'll continue to watch my food intake and monitor my weight and see how I make out without WW. Good bye, weekly meetings. Hello, $40/month!
Two really neat things: 1) The difference from session to session in my endurance and strength is amazing. I'm doing level 1 and plan to continue until I'm bored out of my gourd, but I increase intensity and weight as able, and the suddenness of change in ability is astounding. The glimpses of levels 2 & 3 look a little scary - is there a big difference between 1 & 2? Neat thing #2)I turned my husband on to shredding and we've been doing the workouts together whenever possible. He's man enough to ignore being called a girl by Jillian, and we just laugh when she says "C'mon, Ladies!"
So I've overcome my fear of exercise video commitment in this case, and as soon as I get a chance to buy my own DVD I'll return the Netflix loaner so someone else can join the Shred-Head ranks!
BTW - cracking up at Chas's comment about looking forward to the ab workout. I was thinking the exact same thing! LOL
WOW! So proud of you! You have truly inspired the lot of us! I am on day 5 and moved on to level 2 to get that needed challenge. Whew! Can't wait until day 17 as you shared. Huge hugs and huge thanks from a sister-in-Christ. Gonna be a fit momma for my babes!
I've crumpled...Jillian should be arriving any day. Chasing a one year can no longer be my only exercise. I can't wait to join you!
I am on day 5, level 1. My endurance is building and I am wanting to exercise more. Thanks for the encouragement. I can't wait to get to day 30!!
My progress is that I don't want to die anymore! It is getting easier and I have graduated to Level 2 after only 7 days. I do like the routine of my day starting out with this (after quiet time), and I am certainly noticed that muscles weigh more than fat. I like Courtney am at my target weight and so not having anything shed off weight wise was a little disappointing but my clothes are all very loose and close to the point of having to get new ones! I'm in and I'm staying in!
Hi Vicki! Thanks for inviting us to do this with you. I ordered the DVD right away and today was Day 6 for me. I should be further along but had some unavoidable interruptions (hubby had surgery) so I had to miss a couple of days. I was so glad when the soreness began to wear off after about Day 3. I thought I would die, and I've worked out most of my life, though my workouts have definitely gotten less rigorous over the years! That's why I'm so glad to be doing this thing. It has inspired me to move on up again!
I got a friend who lives 900 miles away to join up too. She just started a couple of days ago. I think if she lived next door or anything she would have killed me after she woke up after Day 2. So it's best to be a few hundred miles away.
No weight loss yet or change in size, but that's probably because I really haven't watched my food intake like I should. I eat very healthy, just too much! After reading your blogs and some of the comments I feel inspired to control my eating a little more so I can quit sabotaging my efforts!
Kay
My track coach told us that muscle weighs more that fat so you can go down a size and still weigh the same. I really like the video. Thanks for getting me and my daughter going on becoming leaner..
Well, I was looking for some kind of exercise accountability, so here goes! I just ordered the dvd. I look forward to this.
The day you first posted about the Shred, I went on Amazon and bought it. I anxiously awaited its arrival. I got it, and the next day I started.
Here's a little clue - after doing the workout for the first time, don't plan on going to an amusement park with your children where you will be doing lots of walking. My legs were SCREAMING all day long! It took me two full days to recover before I felt like I could do another squat or lunge.
With that being said, it IS a fantastic workout. Although I don't do it every day, I will continue doing it! On my busier days, I'll do the Shred because it's only 20 minutes - it's a great way to get rid of the excuse, "I don't have time." Everyone has 20 minutes!!!
Thanks for sharing about this.
Mary H.
I bought the DVD at a local store and have done it 3 days. I could barely move yesterday. I am encouraging my 12 dd to do it with me as we need to inrease her activity level. I am already losing steam, but hope to keep up the motivation.
I am going to purchase this DVD and get started on my shredding. Im a little behind, but I'll catch up! Thanks for sharing, and getting me motivated to move...
I just started my 30-Day Shred this evening!
Thanks for putting out the challenge in the first place- we all need a good kick in the rear every now and again- I've been lazy with exercise for far too long!
I'm looking forward to seeing results!
~Courtney
Today was my 4th day and my calves are killing me. I can hardly walk. It reminds me of when I was in jr. high athletics and I was so sore I couldn't walk. Tomorrow is day 5 and I hope it will get better. I have come this far I am going to keep going.
Tabitha
My DVD arrived this afternoon. Can't wait to get started! I would have never ordered it had I not seen the suggestion on your blog! Thanks for the great info.
Today was day 7!!! Hooray! Accountability is key. Kicking it up to Level 2 on Monday. Say a prayer. can you say DREAD?????
I'm on day 5 today. I love that it's only 20 minutes! Oh how I hate those push-ups!
I have ordered my video and will weigh in when I get it. I have lost about 20 pounds in the last 18 months so now I have to tone those thighs and granny arms. Thanks for the motivation.
My awesome friend Deb told me about you and this "shredding" thing....next day I bought it and I have done 5 days so far. I LOVE it. Thank you for your 21 day update. That is so encouraging. I will stick with it. I made a chart and I'm recording each day I do it. I miss a few days here and there...but who really cares. I love being a shred-head!
My family and I are on Day 10!!!!
After having my daughter laugh hysterically at my husband and I on Day 1, we have FORCED her and her younger sister to join us. No more laughter from the kids just lots of complaining.
When I read your post, I immediately forwarded to my Moms in Faith group at church. We just finished the 40 days to make/change a habit (Lent) and I thought this would be fun way to create another habit. So, ELEVEN of us are starting next week! The DVD's are in and we should be ready to go on Monday! Wish us luck!
Day 1: Level 1. Called Jillian bad names throughout the workout. Really bad. Like sailor bad.
Day 2: Repented of name calling. Had trouble raising arms to wash my face in shower. Cried.
Day 3: I figure out that Jillian may be buff and strong, but she can't tell time. Her "20" minutes takes me about 25.
Day 4: My husband joined me which provided an entertainment that pushed me through the workout. Especially since he insisted on using 8 pound weights... in each hand!!!!!
Day 5: Got easier. Made it through several first runs of strength exercises without stopping. Woo! Hoo!
Day 6: After an early mammogram (oh, joy - which felt like a shredding of a different kind) and meeting and luncheon STILL managed to come home and throw on the workout clothes and squeeze in a shred before picking up the kids from school!
Day 7: Husband still doing it too (he's day 4) and I am feeling stronger. I called Jillian only one name today. Don't think I will ever make it past Level 1, so I just pretend that Jillian is wearing different clothes...
Hi, Thanks for your post! I am an ER nurse with 3 children under the age of 11 and I love to work and play hard. I read your original post and went bought the 30day Shred It and started it that day. I have lost 2pds but like you, feel more tone.
I was taking care of a patient yesterday and we got on the subject she said she was training with JM and was doing the same workout we laughed and we both felt better.
Oh and the other day I came home and two of my 3 children were working out with JM. They are 8 and 5 and were on the second level. They had already done level 1 in the same workout. Of course, the next day I had to ask them if they were sore. They replied, "No mom, why would we be?" LOL

I received my DVD in the mail yesterday! I'm a little nervous about doing it for the first time. I'm not a real fan of sweat or pain but, I plan on getting started bright and early Monday morning! Thanks for the motivation!
I just bought the dvd yesteday @ target but am going to start in the morning wen I take the kiddos to the bus...I plan to alternate this wiht my flirty girls workouts...the booty beat dvd is awesome
steff
My daughter and I have completed 5 days on level 1 and are very encouraged. The first 3 days the workout was very difficult for us and days 2 and 3 my thighs hurt terribly--especially on stairs, while exercising, and in the process of sitting down or getting up from sitting. By day 5 my thighs barely hurt at all and we were able to keep up with Jillian and her girls with only 1 or 2 short (2-3 seconds) breaks.
I have also been snacking less and eating healthier this week. After only 5 days I have already lost 1/2" each in my stomach and hips! I am very encouraged. I'm looking forward to having more energy and not dragging in the afternoons like Vicki has shared.
I read this week that life change requires brain change beginning with motivation and commitment. I pray that God will help me to stay motivated and committed to being healthy and fit so that I am better able to serve Him and others.
i just finished doing level 1 of SHRED and my legs are still shaking!!!! when will they quit? Tell me this will work!!!
Ok, I just finished day 3...I've never done an exercise video 3 consecutive days!!! Not as sore as I thought I would be, but my arms are killing me!!!!
Thanks for the motivation everyone@!
I bought my DVD yesterday and could not wait to get started. Today is day 1 and I'm a little shaky as I write this comment. There was no warning that you might not be able to hold the hair dryer up after your shower.
I have completed Day 5 this evening, and for sure, the Shred has gotten easier. The only part I am struggling with at this point is the strength portion (I am a weakling, what can I say?) But, once I feel more comfortable, I will move on to Level 2.
I have to say that I really appreciate that so many other women are doing this, too. I plan to do this for the entire 30 days, only skipping if I absolutely have to. Tonight, after work, I really didn't feel like getting up off the couch to work out. But, I thought of all the other women dragging themselves out of the comfy chair, too, and I didn't feel so alone.
We're all in this together, and it's rather good to know!

Started yesterday and can't believe how sore my legs are! Those of you ahead of us stragglers please keep telling us it will get better! I was going to blow it off for today, but after reading that several of you said it got better after Day 4 have decided to press on. You'd better be telling the truth!
I just completed day five. My daughter who came home from college two days ago just completed day two with me. Very fun to do together. Thankfully,my thighs aren't screaming quite as loud as they did after day one. Most excited about having toned arms.
I started last Sunday with my two youngest daughters age 9 & 10. One is the skinniest thing you have ever seen, the other, like me, needs the help. The second day we could hardly move! It got better after that and I can already see some changes. We are on day 5. I have been walking everyday but now with it getting hot here in Houston, I must workout inside so this is a great substitute. Thanks for sharing it with us!!
I just completed Day 3. I honestly didn't think I could do it, I was so SORE! But amazingly I did it, I may have dropped off in the last 5 seconds of each cardio..but I did it!!!!
Today was Day 11--I moved on to level 2. All I can say is "Thank goodness for ANITA!!"
