Shred-head update: Let's hear it for the boys!
My youngest son gave level 3 of the 30 Day Shred a try recently and willingly admitted that he was sore the following day. Mind you, the lad plays three sports and is in great shape. Next up: His older brother attempts level 3 a few days later:
Ryan was pouring sweat by the end of the workout and also confessed that it was much tougher than he had imagined. Be reminded, these are the same boys who have talked non-stop smack to me during my two months of shredding with taunts about how easy the workout looked. Since these photos were taken, they have yet to return for another Jillian torture-fest. However, my ever-faithful trainer, Scout, (seen consoling Ryan in the photo above right), remains by my side, cheering me on through each and every workout.
I continue to do the workout about 4-5 times a week and alternate back and forth between Level 1 and Level 3. I have also incorporated walking on my off days, but with the temps in Texas topping 100 as of late, I'm hit or miss. Strangely, I did break the weight barrier after several months of only losing 1-3 pounds. As I've mentioned before, losing weight was not my goal, but to my surprise, I weighed in a few days ago and had lost another couple of pounds. But, here is the best part: I went swimsuit shopping a few days ago to take advantage of the newly mark-downed prices and I actually enjoyed it! Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd type. :)
Aside from the obvious benefit of having more energy and endurance throughout the day, one of the biggest rewards has been enjoying the way my clothes now fit. My arms and legs are toned enough to wear sleeveless shirts and shorts without feeling self-conscious. This past week, we've had temperatures hover around 102/103, so good luck surviving outdoors for more than ten minutes in a pair of denim blue jeans if you live in a city like Austin.
Well, that about does it for my Shred update. Now, it's YOUR turn. Where are you in the Shred journey?

That is so funny! It must look a lot easier than it is. Of course, I didn't think it looked easy at all. hahaha! I'm still doing the shred about 3 days a week. Level 1 really shaped my legs nicely so I alternate that with level 2. I tried level 3 one time and couldn't make it. Maybe I'll try again soon.
I've lost several inches and about 6 pounds! :)
Guess the boys will be showing their mama a bit more respect now!
My journey has been on hiatus for the past two weeks but I will be starting again next Monday. Vacation and recovery from said vacation have gotten in the way. When I was on vacation, I could tell a lot of difference in my stamina with all the walking, swimming, and beach combing. Thanks for getting me started on the shred!
Today was my 10th day "shredding." I started level 2 this morning. I actually think in part it is easier than level 1. And it was a relief to hear a different commentary from Jillian. I keep a Shred Log in my sidebar.

After several weeks of NOT doing the Shred ( I had advanced to level 2 and was seeing progress), I'm gonna have to start over next week because VBS will be over. But I am encouraged because I know the results will come soon.
I finally went out and bought the DVD and finished my 2nd workout today. So obviously no big changes yet. Other than my legs are SORE! I have to admit, I went into the workout a bit arrogantly and thought how bad can a 20 minute workout be... Well 10 minutes in and I knew:)
Thanks for motivating me!
I must've missed something. What is the Shred? I'm thinking I need to get on board!
I am trying to motivate myself to do the "shred", but my daughter and I are doing exercises at home of just various kind trying to work up to bigger levels. Congratulations on your Shred! :)

I am on day 29 of shredding! woo-hoo! I stayed with Level 1 this whole time. Too many scary posts about level 2 and plank devils. My 20 year reunion is in a month so I will move up to level 2 next....still shredding just every other day for me. I may ramp it up with running on the opposite days just to kick it up a notch before the big reunion.
I'm due with my second daughter in 7 weeks, and I've gained much more than I wanted to. I think I'm going to get this DVD and start Shredding as soon as I get the okay from the doctor after she's born! Keep the posts coming - they make me feel motivated even though I can't do them yet :-) And I still think you should get some money from them for advertising if you don't already. (If you want to send some my way since I suggested it, feel free ;-) .)
As of this week, I completed my 30 days of The Shred at level 1. At first I did it every other day and a 2 mile walk/jog on off days. Then for the last 3 weeks I've done level 1 every day plus the 2 mile walk/jog 5 days a week. I've lost 27 pounds and 13 1/2 inches from bust, waist and hips since the beginning of April (started the Shred at the end of April.) Now this is in addition to eating much more healthy, as well. I'm on day 2 of level 2 and the planks are terrible, but I'm going to stay at that level for the next 30 days unless I become fearless and try to attempt level 3 sooner!! I have been amazed at my progress/results, but I tell people who ask - this is brutal, but it works only if you stick with it. It can't be one of those things you do once a week. If you're serious about weight loss or toning up, then be disciplined to stay with it. And as our good friend Jillian says "If you want results, they're not coming for free."
THANKS AGAIN for recommending this!!
Just chugging along at level 2...just haven't been excited about all the intensity of level 3. However, you have motivated me to give it a shot for the next 5 days. It is always good to get some encouragement. Thank you for that.
I really would love to enjoy some swimsuit shopping.
Started the Shred last week. Day 8 on Level 1. Not sore anymore. Finding it easier to get through the workout. Thanks for the motivation!
Thanks to you, I was inspired to get the DVD and start to SHRED! I have shredded for 5 days now and, OUCH!, my legs are so sore! The best part about it is that my 12 & 13 year old daughters shred with me, and my husband even shredded with us during the weekend (I do believe he was a bit surprised at the intensity of the workout----and he is in GREAT shape!).
The family that shreds together and all that...
I am not shredding but it is nice to hear real tales from a real mom like me. I am currently walking 2 german shepherds, one of which is only 6 months old, 3 times a day. My kids harass me the same as yours in the most loving way of course. Keep it up!!
I'm starting my journey tomorrow! A friend is bringing me her video tonight at church. She's had surgery and won't be using it for a while! Can't wait to start the torture, er, workout!
I got the DVD and began my shred in April and was dead for about 3 days but continued on and finished the "Shredding" and graduated to "No More Trouble Zones" and am feeling wonderful. Went to see Beth Moore over the weekend in Stockton & was surprised at the amount of energy running up & down stairs, etc. Thanks for the info on the "Shred".
i just started the shred this week. the best part is that my kids (ages 5 and 7) want to do it along with me, so i have some great video of them using canned chicken breast (for the older) and canned tuna fish (for the younger) for weights as they do the moves. it's adorable, and they ask to do it everyday. if i had a way to send a clip to jillian, i think she'd get a kick out of it.
Okay so I thought that the Shred looked easy and it wasn't hard at all. I mean I am middle school athlete and I talked my mom and I into doing it and we tried for the first time tonight. I finished level 1 about 10 minutes ago and my legs are still shaking. I don't get how you people can make it up to level 3 but who knows with God's love, grace, and mercy maybe I will get there. I aplaud your sons for trying and I understand the pain they are or were going through
I have been shredding since the middle of May and can tell a huge difference in my strength. My 13 year old told me I was going to have to stop before I ended up with "man arms". Now, is that the sweetest thing to hear when you've had zero upper body strength up to this point in life? My athletic husband is doing it with me about half the time and I love it that he struggles with some of the moves I can now do easily. Don't get me wrong, I am still with Anita for about 70% of the moves- but it works! Slow and steady. Level 1 for 2 wks, Level 2 for 5 wks, and I've been on Level 3 for 3wks. Bring on the beach and class reunions!
